Our May speaker, Lance Carlson, is a Divisional Vice President for MetLife Investors Distribution Company, responsible for MetLife's wholesaling efforts in the Wirehouse Channel. Lance presented a brief review of the evolution of variable annuities to provide a full explanation of new features that have been developed as a result of changing customer requirements. These are guaranteed income and lifetime withdrawal benefits. The presentation was strictly educational and generic in nature. The goal was for our club members to learn about these new features so that they would be prepared to ask the right questions should the subject of variable annuities arise as the member addresses his or her financial requirements. Most all the major insurance companies have adapted these new features in their variable annuities. The presentation led to more questions from the audience than usual, demonstrating how the members were engaged in the discussion. Generic handouts on variable annuities from the SEC, FINRA, and UBS were also provided. |
